Day Three – Mount Ashland Opens!

December 6th, 2012 by peter

Dad & I made it up for the 2nd chair of the season. The weather was great – we got above the clouds and enjoyed the sun for pretty much the whole time we were there. Always interesting to see the familiar faces, and the egos that go along with them. Looking forward to another great year.
A rainbow greeted me for my first run down this morning!

Day Two?

December 4th, 2012 by peter

Does half a turn count as skiing? After a great day yesterday, Dad & I headed back up to the hill. Unfortunately it was raining and the snow had developed like about 3″ of total crust on top. I figured since we had driven all the way up, I might as well take a few turns… However after skidding through the first one, I decided that it would be best just to head back home…
A semi-successful turn (I didn’t fall)

Day One – 2012-2013 Ski Season!!!

December 3rd, 2012 by peter

And it begins! Skinned up to the top of Mount Ashland with Dad and had a couple nice runs down. Fortunately, I still remember how to ski! The snow was still nice and soft, so it was a lot of fun floating through it. Those super fat skis certainly help.
Me taking a few turns down Aerial Chairline.

Fourty-Ninth Ski!

June 2nd, 2012 by peter

Got out of the valley clouds, and into the sun. Boot packed up to the top of Mount Ashland and then skied down 4th chute in the bowl. Visibility wasn’t the greatest on the way down, but the snow was nice and consistent, so that was fun. Since its so much work to get up there, got to take a lot of turns on the way down!

Fourty-Eighth Ski!

Hiked to the top of Mount McLoughlin today! First time I have ever done that. Got up bright & early, met Dad, and headed off. Went up the South-West face, through some lava fields (totally awesome to walk in ski boots), trees, and some snow. It was a nice day, got some good turns in on my skinny skis, and it was cool to be up there with Dad. Had to walk a ways to the car, but we found it no problem!

Hit up Mt. A for a couple runs with Paddy. The weather was nice and sunny, and nice slushy snow on the slopes.

Fourty-Sixth Ski!!!

April 22nd, 2012 by peter

Last day of lifts @ Mt. Ashland. Went up for a couple hours, skied mostly off Aerial. It was nice and sunny, a good way to close out the year. There is still plenty of snow left for more skiing, so I am looking forward to that. Although it didn’t start out how we might of liked, I would say that there was a lot of good skiing to be had this year. You just had to be ready for it.

Mt. Ashland most certainly does rock. Thanks for a great year.

Fourty-Fifth Ski!!!

Got some nice spring skiing in with Paddy today. Skied off Aerial, mostly down the first chute. I had some cool tree jibs coming out of the bowl – airing off of a windlip over some trees that were sticking probably 6-8 feet out of the snow. It was a lot of fun, it just kind of happened the first time, and after that it was on. Pretty stoked on those airs…

Me getting sick with it @ the top of the first chute.
